Myrrh

MYRRH graphic

Myrrh – Young Living

🏺FUN FACTS🏺

Well over 2,000 years before the baby Jesus received Myrrh as a gift, it was one of the most desired and most expensive items in the world. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite forced the goddess Myrrha into an incestuous relationship with her father, Cinyras. Cinyras avenged the act by turning his daughter into a Myrrh tree. When the tree sprouted its blooms, their child Adonis was born. The resinous drops that exude from cuts in the trees bark were said to be Myrrha’s  healing tears. For this reason, the Greeks and Romans used Myrrh to dress their battle wounds.

Myrrh oil has a smoky, sweet or sometimes bitter smell. The word myrrh comes from the Arabic word “murr” meaning bitter. The oil is a yellowish, orange color with a viscous consistency. Chinese have used Myrrh in their medicine from ancient times through modern.

Historically, Myrrh was an integral part of religious ceremonies, embalming, and as a medical cure for all kinds of ancient (and modern day) diseases. Myrrh is also a beloved oil of perfumers as it extends the fragrance of other aromatics. There is good reason that Myrrh was offered as a gift to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords at the first Christmas

🏺WHAT IT DOES 🏺

Two primary active compounds are found in myrrh, called terpenoids and sesquiterpenes, both of which have powerful health effects, which promotes  healthy inflammatory response and fill the body with life-giving anti-oxidants. Sesquiterpenes specifically have an effect on our emotional center in the hypothalamus, helping us remain calm and balanced. Both of these compounds are under investigation for their health benefits, as well as other potential therapeutic uses.

Myrrh can help maintain healthy skin by soothing chapped or cracked patches. It is commonly added to skin care products to help with moisturizing and also for fragrance. Ancient Egyptians used it to prevent aging and maintain healthy skin. Myrrh is commonly used in aromatherapy for massages. It can also be added to a warm bath or applied directly to the skin

🏺 IDEAS FOR USE – TOPICAL/ AROMATIC 🏺

  • Mix with other essential oils to create your own unique scent
  • diffuse for fragrance

Reflect What You See

50229698_364011427516724_5450317001477606871_n(1)

Life is only a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see.
🌺
Did’ja catch that?

The things we focus on are the things we allow into our life. Will I allow the sidewalk bubblegum stuck to my shoe to frustrate me, or will I be captivated by this scene as I stooped down to clean it off?
👟
Every one of us faces these tiny moments of decision a thousand times a day. Ten years ago I would have been angrily plucking the sticky mess out of my sneakers. It would have soured the moment, caused irritation and stress, not to mention I would have missed the beauty right in front of me.
🙅🏻‍♀️
Let me tell you, the gum could wait. As a photographer, I didn’t want to miss this moment. The light, the colors, the cheerful buildings with no people and no cars… the mess would still be there when I was through. In this moment, I chose to fill my cup with creativity rather than consternation.
📸
I speak these words to you because I need to hear them myself- over and over and over again. If we focus on the negative, the irritations, the frustrations- our lives become a reflection of those things. Eventually we would *only* see the bubblegum and never see the beauty. And nobody wants to be around that!!!
🙌
One of the reasons I love photography is because it teaches you to focus. It doesn’t matter what’s behind, beside, or even before you, if you just zero in on the subject and adjust your settings, you can capture the most beautiful images in the most unlikely places. It’s all a matter of perspective. Some of my best travel pictures were taken in trash alleys. True story
🌻
If our lives truly are a reflection of what we see, then let’s be the flowers on a brightly painted windowsill! The world has enough people reflecting its littered streets

Discover Your Purpose

If this isn’t what life’s journey is about, I don’t know what is.🤷🏻‍♀️

Nobody could have ever told me that I would be a stay-at-home military wife, homeschooling two boys. I wouldn’t have listened. 🙇🏻‍♀️

If someone had predicted that I would move 12 times in 15 years (twice overseas and twice into an RV) I would have laughed them out of the room! Not this girl! I had goals and aspirations- none of which was to stay at home wiping little noses, teaching abc’s and hanging broken picture frames in government-issued housing! 🙅🏻‍♀️

But God had different plans- and those plans come with twists and turns, mountains and huge valleys, trials and triumphs.🎢

If I’d had my dream career, I would have never spent four glorious years in Japan. 🇯🇵

I would never have discovered that simple living suits me far better than the palatial home of my dreams. 🚐

I would never have understood the richness of community, the depth of gratitude towards our service members, the appreciation of foreign cultures, the passion for travel… ✈️

Had I not married a Marine, I might never have loved as generously, lost as deeply, prayed as fervently as a military wife is known to do. 🙏🏻

If I’d had my dream career, I would have been too busy to savor the precious and fleeting moments of my children’s youth. If I’d had life my way, I would have missed so much of what really matters in life.
❤️
Through all this time, through all the hardships and sacrifice, through all the dreams and ambitions that have fallen by the wayside- I have not found myself.  Thank God- I have found who I was meant to be. And it’s something far better than anything I could have imagined.

Now Is Our Time

49371824_2257765267794418_8888822591530635533_n

There are so many people out there seemingly living such beautiful lives… traveling to exotic places, climbing El Capitan, performing on stage, succeeding wildly at a business venture… doing things that causes the world to take notice and give applause. Good for them!
😯
And then there’s the rest of us. With dishes in the sink, laundry to fold, too many things on the calendar, none of which are more exciting than a dentist appointment… is it just me?
🤔
Life is made up of all the little moments in between the laundry folding and the trips to the dentist. It’s the conversations in the car and tucking my kids in to a freshly made bed. It’s taking the dog for a walk, pouring a cup of coffee, sitting down to a meal together… and of course, doing the dishes.

😬
There are imperfections, hardships, struggles. Something breaks, money is tight, someone’s health is failing. Marriages unravel, children disobey, jobs come to an end… this is life. And it’s not always pretty
🤕
But in between the big moments of chaos are always little moments of peace- something to laugh about, something beautiful to see, a pause, a stillness. And THOSE are the moments that define the times, if we can see them. .🤔
For me, the past three years have been full of the “asphalt and concrete of life”- both literally and figuratively- it hasn’t been very pretty. But always there were cracks in the sidewalk where something small and beautiful has grown.
🌱
If you are going through a less than beautiful patch of life right now, if you feel like there’s nothing but asphalt as far as you can see, remember, It only takes a decade for a forest to reclaim a city.
🌳
So grab your Acceptance, Gathering or Gratitude oil, and let the uplifting aroma wash over you. Breathe deeply and feel your frustration melt away.  There may have been beautiful times behind you, and there will certainly be more beautiful times ahead, but where you are Right Now-

THIS time is yours.
