HYSSOP graphic

Hyssop- Young Living

The perennial plant hyssop is native to the Mediterranean region and was considered a holy plant in biblical times.

The name, Hyssop,  actually means “holy herb.” It was used in rituals, teas, wound healing, and baths. David refers to hyssop in Psalm 51 as part of his repentant lament:

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

During the time of the Romans, this herb was used against the plague, as a disinfectant and for treatment of minor infections. In some parts of the world, it had a spiritual function, and was believed to purify and “forgive sins.”1 Christianity held hyssop in high regard — the herb was cited as a symbol of baptism and reconciliation.2 In other religions, it is associated with purification. This is largely due to the miasma theory, the belief that scent chased away illness. Although that  isn’t exactly the mechanism of action, the idea was there and the application was effective.

When steam-distilled, the plant produces a very potent essential oil

Hyssop has been used since ancient times for nearly every ailment under the sun, from spiritual and emotional cleansing to boozing immunity and restoring health to patients. It helps to regulate menstrual flow, blood pressure and perspiration, as well as opening the airways, healing the skin and boosting immunity. Emotionally, hyssop has been said to clear the mind, alleviate nervous tension and generally overcome fatigue. This energy-inciting quality is one reason it has been administered to patients as it helps them overcome lethargy from being sick. Sometimes the best remedy is to get a patient moving again.

Hyssop has been studied intensively for it’s powerful properties, namely the way it interacts with viral cells and “disarms them,” The Bible also refers to hyssop and other plants as “bitter herbs” which were used to stimulate digestion and calm the digestive tract. Adding a few drops to a carrier oil can do wonders to promote relaxed muscles in any part of the body.

Emotionally and spiritually, Hyssop has long been used as a cleansing and purifying oil. The ancient Hebrews used it to chase away evil spirits. Hyssop was the plant the Lord commanded that the Israelites use to paint the lamb’s blood over their doorposts to ward off the Angel of Death in Egypt. See Exodus

Sacred Mountain

Sacred Mountain- Young Living

Sacred Mountain was especially crafted by D. Gary Young to help create feelings of protection, empowerment and grounding. This blend of Ylang Ylang and conifer oils that evokes the sense of sanctity found in nature and promotes feelings of strength when diffused.

The three conifer oils used in this blend have historically been used by the North American Indians to symbolically represent an umbrella of protection over the earth. Its also symbolic of bringing energy in from the universe. At night the animals lie under these trees fro protection, recharging and rejuvenation.

Sacred Mountain helps to ground you, empower you to find your strength, and protects you in that critical moment. Sacred Mountain is made from big, strong trees which have all the qualities you are searching for in this stressful moment. Spruce, Balsam Fir, and Cedarwood are in Sacred Mountain, plus it has Ylang Ylang. This unique blend helps you to find the peace and calm that is often felt in the great outdoors.

This blend has an extremely high emotional/spiritiual frequency of 176 MHz

SPRUCE –  Spruce helps ground the body, allowing one to release emotional blocks thus restoring a sense of balance. Some have said Spruce contains the frequency of prosperity.

YLANG YLANG balances male and female energies so one can move towards a place of balance, enabling cleared thinking, focused thoughts which brings a sense of confidence and peace

IDAHO BALSAM FIR– an extremely high frequency oil, it has a strong, empowering and grounding aroma. It stimulated the mind while allowing the body to relax, effective for soothing tired or overworked muscles, ligaments, tendons joints and helps to reduce stress levels

CEDARWOOD – has an earthy aroma that gives you a sense of security. It is calming, purifying and grounding and helps to open the pineal gland –  a small pea-shaped gland in the brain that produces and regulates hormones, particularly melatonin a serotonin-derived hormone which modulates sleep patterns in both circadian and seasonal cycles.

It’s not so much about HOW to use emotional oils but WHEN. Here are some suggestions:

  • If you feel stuck, afraid to move forward because of fear of failure.
  • You have to stand in front of a crowd, give a presentation, teach, go on film, hold an interview and you need a confidence boost/ feeling of empowerment
  • Overwhelming social situations- some of us are introverts and don’t do well in crowds. Other times we are adverse to certain personalities in the crowd that can not be avoided.
  • Loss of a loved one/ overcoming grief
  • Controlling your emotions- grounding yourself. You can’t always control how you feel, but you CAN control how you act on those feelings
  • Dealing with conflict or argument- help to set your nerves and secure your resolve
  • Self-care- being intentional to make time for YOU especially as a wipfe and a mother
  • Leadership- when you are stepping forward to lead a team or teach others with confidence and assurance
  • Empowerment- when you need a boost of encouragement and confidence for a vulnerable task
  • Asserting Yourself- when you need to stand firm in your resolve or make someone else back down, and standing your ground isn’t your strong suit
  • Confronting overbearing personalities- not allowing yourself to be backed into a corner by an overbearing or intimidating personality
  • Self-advocacy- when you need to speak up for yourself
  • Diffuse during work hours
  • Wear as perfume
  • Deep inhale or apply topically before tackling intimidating tasks

Impulse to Soar

I love this picture of the hubs, circa 2008. We were invited to sit by the runway and watch him practice carrier landings. It was awesome!!!

But one thing I didn’t grasp until now was this idea- aviation is in his veins. Once he had circled the clouds like a bird, spanned the mountains & oceans from above, and lived beyond his wildest dreams, how could he ever walk the earth without soaring overhead in his mind?
As an earthbound misfit myself, I truly did not grasp why his eyes were always on the sky. Now I understand. It’s not just his eyes, it is his heart. Once you’ve experienced life from a different viewpoint, it’s impossible to not see things from a new perspective.
As a military family, we have lived a wildly adventurous life. We’ve been blessed to enjoy just a touch of the of this marvelous world- its beauty, its cultures, its people. How can we now be content with sitting still? How can we confine our lives to the parameters of mediocrity and feel fulfilled? Once you have learned to fly, how can you be content to creep?
Friends, we were made for more than just existing. We were put on this earth to connect with God- through His creation, through His people, and through our own increase. How can we expand our understanding by staying in one place, if we do the same things, if we live our life by the same repeated patterns?

The truth is, we can not be everything we were made to be by staying comfortable. Flying isn’t always comfortable. The jet breaks. There are emergencies. The fight is hard and the struggles are real. But that doesn’t mean you stay grounded.

Some circles preach contentment, but I’ve found that discomfort breeds creativity. Only those who are sufficiently dissatisfied with their current situation will seek to change it. Perhaps it’s a toxic relationship, or a job, or a habit you need to break. Perhaps its a positive change you need to embrace to be a better you. Everyone is going somewhere, this is a law of the universe. You are either moving forward or sliding backward- but nobody stays in one place. So what are you waiting for? Perhaps it’s time to spread your wings and fly! #perspectivechangeseverything

A Blade of Grass

Grass BladeUnless a man can duplicate a blade of grass, he can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge

~ Thomas Edison

My sons and I spent Valentine’s Day dissecting a worm. Because nothing says love like worm guts, right?

What we discovered was so much more than dirt-filled intestines. We were dazzled by the incredible complexity of creation! Worms do not have a heart, yet they have an elaborate cardiovascular system. They don’t have a brain, yet their nerve relay system is sensitive, responsive and powerful. They don’t have a stomach, but they till our soil and bring life to the earth through their digestive system. What we didn’t expect was to discover that even the lowliest of life forms was an intricate masterpiece of ingenuity and design!

What does this have to do with grass? I love this quote because Thomas Edison recognized what so many of us fail to see. The commonplace, the everyday, the uninspiring… if we look closely, if we reallly take the time to observe, study and ponder them- they are not common at all!

When we walk barefoot through lush green grass, we are blissfully unaware of the intricate, living mechanisms underfoot. For starters, grass is THE major food source for life all over the earth! The sugars locked in the polysaccharides of the cell wall make grass one of the most significant sources of renewable energy in the world.

It’s roots search the darkness for water and nutrients. Its leaves harness the energy from sunlight and converts sunshine into food. Its tenacity is astounding- grass can grow through concrete walls. Its perseverance is why homeowners love to grow it (but hate to mow it) Not only that, in 2018 certain strains of grass have been shown effective in destroying cancer cells…

In fact, many (Many, MANY) plants have been shown to contain anti-cancer properties. The cutting edge of medicine has only BEGUN to discover the secret life of plants, their mind blowing complexity, their chemical constituency, their life-giving properties. Plants are the most sophisticated chemical factories on planet earth!

Oh we can send a man to the moon. We can circumnavigate the globe in a fraction of a second through technology. Nuclear power, jet engines, satellites, computers, particle colliders… science is advancing at such an exponential rate that it seems nothing is impossible for man to achieve. Except for a blade of grass. Hell, man can’t even duplicate the amino acids necessary to build ONE SINGLE CELL of a blade of grass, let alone the entire plant!

So remember, the next time you lay in a field of green on a warm summer’s day- all we reeeeally know is that we truly know nothing at all!

#amazingcreation #fingerprintsofgod

Discover Your Purpose

If this isn’t what life’s journey is about, I don’t know what is.🤷🏻‍♀️

Nobody could have ever told me that I would be a stay-at-home military wife, homeschooling two boys. I wouldn’t have listened. 🙇🏻‍♀️

If someone had predicted that I would move 12 times in 15 years (twice overseas and twice into an RV) I would have laughed them out of the room! Not this girl! I had goals and aspirations- none of which was to stay at home wiping little noses, teaching abc’s and hanging broken picture frames in government-issued housing! 🙅🏻‍♀️

But God had different plans- and those plans come with twists and turns, mountains and huge valleys, trials and triumphs.🎢

If I’d had my dream career, I would have never spent four glorious years in Japan. 🇯🇵

I would never have discovered that simple living suits me far better than the palatial home of my dreams. 🚐

I would never have understood the richness of community, the depth of gratitude towards our service members, the appreciation of foreign cultures, the passion for travel… ✈️

Had I not married a Marine, I might never have loved as generously, lost as deeply, prayed as fervently as a military wife is known to do. 🙏🏻

If I’d had my dream career, I would have been too busy to savor the precious and fleeting moments of my children’s youth. If I’d had life my way, I would have missed so much of what really matters in life.
Through all this time, through all the hardships and sacrifice, through all the dreams and ambitions that have fallen by the wayside- I have not found myself.  Thank God- I have found who I was meant to be. And it’s something far better than anything I could have imagined.
