Blue Cypress

BLUE CYPRESS graphic

Blue Cypress- Young Living

💙 FUN FACTS 💙

The word “cypress” is a common name given to several genera of evergreen, aromatic trees and shrubs which belong to the Cupressaceae family, and many of them yield essential oil. This particular cypress oil, callitris intratropica, comes from Australia. The oil’s most striking characteristic is surely its bluish coloring. Derived from the Northern Territory Cypress Pine, this oil is distilled from the barks and heart woods and requires extremely long distillation times of up to 48 hours. Most oil companies do NOT distill their oils properly (so they lack the vital constituents for wellness), so beware of who you purchase from! Historically, blue cypress has many medicinal uses for the Blue Cypress has been used historically for incense, perfume and embalming

💙 WHAT IT DOES 💙

Widely used in cosmetics as an anti-aging agent, it is beneficial to all areas of the skin, everything from the face and beauty routines to delicate baby bottoms when their diapers have rubbed them raw.

Cypress essential oil can help strengthen the gums and tighten muscles throughout the body. The main function is contraction, so cypress oil makes your gums, skin, muscles, and hair follicles contract and strengthens the cavities that hold hair and teeth, etc. It also tightens up loose skin and muscles.

Cypress oil is helpful in promoting calm muscles in the face of spasms, from  the respiratory system and intestines to the muscles in the limbs, making it a wonderful oil for the musculoskeletal system.

Cypress oil stimulates  frequency and quantity of urination, which is beneficial because urine removes excess water and toxins from the body, helps to reduce blood pressure and cleans out the kidneys. Many of the mainstream medications for lowering blood pressure are based on this aspect of detoxing through increased urination.

Other properties of cypress oil make it a good choice for treating wounds- it is a common ingredient in first aid lotions and creams, namely, Cypress oil behaves as a hemostatic and a styptic agent. Hemostatic means that it can help stop blood flow and promote clotting. Styptic primarily means it helps to prevent excessive loss of blood through contraction of the blood vessels. If someone is bleeding profusely, they need a hemostatic agent to speed up the clotting of blood and stop its flow to save their life. Similarly, a styptic agent promotes the contraction of gums, hair follicles, muscles, skin, and blood vessels, thereby stimulating the flow of blood through the blood vessels. Both of these properties can be life-saving.

Cypress oil boosts the respiratory system and increases lung  efficiency. It helps clear any buildup in the respiratory tracts and lungs to make breathing easier during times of seasonal sniffles or the common crud.

Cypress oil is considered to be a very powerful sudorific agent, which means it can cause sweating or perspiration. Periodic sweating helps remove toxins, excess salt, and water from the body, clearing out the pores. Clean pores helps to  keep away bacteria and disease.

Cypress oil endures optimal liver health by regulating a proper discharge of bile- a crucial part of a healthy the digestive process. Because Cypress also soothes muscle tension, it can bring abdominal comfort, for the digestive process or menstrual cycle.

💙 IDEAS FOR USE- TOPICAL/ AROMATIC 💙

Patchouli

PATCHOULI graphic

Patchouli – Young Living

🌸 FUN FACTS 🌸

Derived from a large evergreen perennial, and related to the lavender and sage family, Patchouli has been prized for centuries for healing and beautifying the skin. The oil originated in southeast Asia and is extracted from the plant’s lightly fragrant leaves and the white, violet-marked flowers. Countless generations across the globe have used patchouli for a wide variety of needs. In ancient Rome, Romans, it was used to stimulate the appetite. In Egypt, King Tut arranged to have gallons of patchouli oil buried with him in his tomb. In Asia, people used it extensively for medicinal purposes- everything from treating skin bites to soothing headaches.

Nowadays, patchouli oil is used as a fragrance in skin and personal care products, potpourri, insect repellents, detergents and incense. Interestingly enough, patchouli is a major component of the fragrance industry, because it acts like a fine wine and it’s aroma gets better (and changes) with age!

🌸 WHAT IT DOES 🌸

Patchouli has a distinct floral and musky aroma which has somewhat of an acquired taste. However, many people who do not love its fragrance dat first, grow to love it as they experience its healing benefits, both to body and mind. Emotionally, patchouli oil is said to help relieve anxiety, stress and depression because of the impact it has on our hormones: Patchouli encourages the release of serotonin and dopamine, hormones that ease feelings of anger, anxiety and anxiousness. This is one reason why patchouli is often diffused (or incense burned) during prayer- it creates an atmosphere of tranquility.

Hormonally, patchouli also has the power to stimulate the libido and has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries. It has also been proven effective for helping partners maintain physical ability during intimacy

Patchouli also stimulated muscle contractions (as opposed to other oils which do the reverse) so it aids skin and hair, stimulating the hair follicles and tightening the skin. It also is incredibly moisturizing and helps to encourage new cell growth, keeping the skin young and healthy. It works well on all skin types, whether dry or oils, to promote balance, so it’s a great oil for the scalp and the face.

Patchouli also is beneficial to the liver, stomach and intestines and it helps your body to process food and absorb nutrients effectively. It also acts as a stimulant to the bladder, increasing urination, helping your body to expel toxins effectively- this is beneficial to the gallbladder, liver and kidneys, which are the body’s filtration system. This oils is known as a toxins- digestor for the body.

At night, patchouli is extremely calming to the nervous system and the mind, so many people use it to promote a restful night sleep.

Another beautiful thing about patchouli is that bugs don’t tend to like it, so take your patchouli outdoors, when camping, or sitting on your porch. Many people add it to their laundry detergent or dryer balls as a natural shield against unwanted fly-bys.

German Chamomile & Vitality

GERMAN CHAMOMILE graphic

German Chamomile & Chamomile Vitality

🌸 FUN FACTS 🌸

Considered to be one of the most ancient and versatile medicinal herbs known to man, chamomile has innumerable health benefits. Native to Europe, this member of the daisy family has a long history of use from crying children to digestive tonics. Chamomile has been one of the “catch all” remedies for just about every ailment known to man- it is an extremely versatile little flower!

There are two common types of chamomile used medicinally today: German chamomile and Roman chamomile

🌸 WHAT IT DOES 🌸

Packed full of vital antioxidants, Chamomile is a powerful healing factory. An effective alternative medicine with almost no known negative side effects, chamomile has been used for over 5,000 years in  teas, herbal extracts and cosmetics because it promotes tranquility, vitality, a youthful appearance and longevity.

Antioxidants in  German Chamomile help maintain a healthy inflammatory level in the body by offsetting free radical damage (oxidative stress) and preventing cell mutation. This can lead to better immune function, improved emotional balance, increased comfort in organs, muscles and joints (throughout the body) and healthier skin, hair, nails, teeth and eyes. Emotionally, Chamomile is one the best medicinal herbs for fighting stress and promoting relaxation. It behaves as a mild sedative, calming the nerves as its aromatic molecules travel directly to the olfactory part of the brain, turning off tension and reducing the body’s stress response. Our emotions and hormonal balance are in response to our sense of smell, so German Chamomile can help balance the endocrine system as well.

Chamomile has been well known since the beginning of time to aid digestion, whether promoting healthy gas levels and heathy stools, to encouraging comfort and stabilizing the nervous/ digestive  link. Applied topically or ingested, Chamomile serves to promote ease and comfort and healthy inflammatory response wherever there is a need in the body. From the back, to joints, to teeth and gums, it is a very soothing oil. And it world for smoothing the skin, too- it’s a beloved oil for beauty.

Applied over the chest or deep inhaled, it supports healthy respiratory function and nourishes the cardiovascular system.  There is virtually no system of the body that Chamomile doesn’t offer aid and comfort when needed.

HELICHRYSUM graphic

Helichrysum- Young Living

🧡  FUN FACTS 🧡

Helichrysum is known as Immortelle, or the Everlasting Flower, possibly because of the way its essential oil can smooth the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin tone.  Its name,  “helichrysum” comes from Latin and Greek roots, meaning “gold spiral” due to its beautiful, golden blossoms. Historically,  it has been used for many different ailments for centuries, especially in Eastern, Western, and Southern African culture. Different tribes in Africa have used helichrysum mostly for countless medicinal purposes. Today, you can find this amazing, healing oil in some of Young Living’s most popular blends, such as Deep Relief, PanAway, M-Grain, Forgiveness…

Helichrysum is typically harvested wild from the rocky shores of Croatia’s Dalmatia region, but Young Living’s helichrysum is cultivated at our farm in Split, Croatia. By cultivating this rare plant, Young Living is helping to protect it from exploitation and over-harvesting. In using our Helichrysum essential oil, you’re helping support sustainable agriculture.

🧡 WHAT IT DOES🧡

Hyssop

HYSSOP graphic

Hyssop- Young Living

🌺 FUN FACTS 🌺

The perennial plant hyssop is native to the Mediterranean region and was considered a holy plant in biblical times.

The name, Hyssop,  actually means “holy herb.” It was used in rituals, teas, wound healing, and baths. David refers to hyssop in Psalm 51 as part of his repentant lament:

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

During the time of the Romans, this herb was used against the plague, as a disinfectant and for treatment of minor infections. In some parts of the world, it had a spiritual function, and was believed to purify and “forgive sins.”1 Christianity held hyssop in high regard — the herb was cited as a symbol of baptism and reconciliation.2 In other religions, it is associated with purification. This is largely due to the miasma theory, the belief that scent chased away illness. Although that  isn’t exactly the mechanism of action, the idea was there and the application was effective.

When steam-distilled, the plant produces a very potent essential oil

🌺  WHAT IT DOES 🌺

Hyssop has been used since ancient times for nearly every ailment under the sun, from spiritual and emotional cleansing to boozing immunity and restoring health to patients. It helps to regulate menstrual flow, blood pressure and perspiration, as well as opening the airways, healing the skin and boosting immunity. Emotionally, hyssop has been said to clear the mind, alleviate nervous tension and generally overcome fatigue. This energy-inciting quality is one reason it has been administered to patients as it helps them overcome lethargy from being sick. Sometimes the best remedy is to get a patient moving again.

Hyssop has been studied intensively for it’s powerful properties, namely the way it interacts with viral cells and “disarms them,” The Bible also refers to hyssop and other plants as “bitter herbs” which were used to stimulate digestion and calm the digestive tract. Adding a few drops to a carrier oil can do wonders to promote relaxed muscles in any part of the body.

Emotionally and spiritually, Hyssop has long been used as a cleansing and purifying oil. The ancient Hebrews used it to chase away evil spirits. Hyssop was the plant the Lord commanded that the Israelites use to paint the lamb’s blood over their doorposts to ward off the Angel of Death in Egypt. See Exodus

Oregano & Oregano Vitality- Young Living

🍃 FUN FACTS 🍃

Steam distilled from the leaves of the Oregano plant, a hardy perennial herb and member of the mint family. The ancient Greeks and Romans have a profound appreciation for oregano, using it for various medicinal purposes. In fact, its name comes from the Greek words “oros” and “ganos,” which are words for mountain and joy — oregano literally means “joy of the mountain.”

It was revered as a symbol of happiness, and it was an ancient tradition to crown brides and grooms with a laurel of oregano. Its most well known constituents are Thymol, Cavracol, Beta-caryophyllin (BCP), and rosemaric acid- a powerful antioxidant

🍃 WHAT IT DOES 🍃

*** ALWAYS DILUTE IN TOPICAL APPLICATIONS because it can cause skin irritation.

Oregano is highly recommended as an oil to add to your arsenal of natural healing tools, as it has a wide range of uses, but is most associated with respiratory and immune system health. It also positively benefits the muscles and bones. Oregano has been gaining popularity as a natural remedy, though its use as a health-boosting herb is centuries old. It contains high amounts of Omega-3s, Iron, Manganese, and antioxidants.  Oregano is a very flavorful herb that is often used in Italian, Greek and Spanish cooking. It is often used in seasoning blends, including Italian Seasoning, and pairs well with meats, tomato dishes, and eggs.

🍃 IDEAS FOR USE –  INTERNAL (with Vitality™ only) 🍃

• Place a drop under the tongue and hold it there for several seconds to boost the immune system

• Take it as a dietary supplement by adding a drop to a vegetarian capsule and taking daily or as needed.*

• Substitute Oregano Vitality in any recipe calling for the dried Oregano herb

• Apply on location to skin areas for smoothing warts or skin tags (use caution if the oil is too hot- dilute)

• Add several drops to your DIY outdoor spray

• Place a few drops on a cotton ball and place the cottontail to deter creepy-crawlies from entering your home

• Apply (diluted) to insect bites or to soothe skin

• Add a few drops to boiling water, and being careful not to get the steam in your eyes, gently inhale the oregano steam to promote healthy breathing

• Add a few drops to your favorite Shampoo to help the scalp stay moisturized. Be careful to avoid the eyes

• Soak hands or feet in a basin of warm water to encourage healthy skin and promote a healthy bacterial environment

• Apply (diluted) to the chest to aid respiration
