Blue Cypress

BLUE CYPRESS graphic

Blue Cypress- Young Living

💙 FUN FACTS 💙

The word “cypress” is a common name given to several genera of evergreen, aromatic trees and shrubs which belong to the Cupressaceae family, and many of them yield essential oil. This particular cypress oil, callitris intratropica, comes from Australia. The oil’s most striking characteristic is surely its bluish coloring. Derived from the Northern Territory Cypress Pine, this oil is distilled from the barks and heart woods and requires extremely long distillation times of up to 48 hours. Most oil companies do NOT distill their oils properly (so they lack the vital constituents for wellness), so beware of who you purchase from! Historically, blue cypress has many medicinal uses for the Blue Cypress has been used historically for incense, perfume and embalming

💙 WHAT IT DOES 💙

Widely used in cosmetics as an anti-aging agent, it is beneficial to all areas of the skin, everything from the face and beauty routines to delicate baby bottoms when their diapers have rubbed them raw.

Cypress essential oil can help strengthen the gums and tighten muscles throughout the body. The main function is contraction, so cypress oil makes your gums, skin, muscles, and hair follicles contract and strengthens the cavities that hold hair and teeth, etc. It also tightens up loose skin and muscles.

Cypress oil is helpful in promoting calm muscles in the face of spasms, from  the respiratory system and intestines to the muscles in the limbs, making it a wonderful oil for the musculoskeletal system.

Cypress oil stimulates  frequency and quantity of urination, which is beneficial because urine removes excess water and toxins from the body, helps to reduce blood pressure and cleans out the kidneys. Many of the mainstream medications for lowering blood pressure are based on this aspect of detoxing through increased urination.

Other properties of cypress oil make it a good choice for treating wounds- it is a common ingredient in first aid lotions and creams, namely, Cypress oil behaves as a hemostatic and a styptic agent. Hemostatic means that it can help stop blood flow and promote clotting. Styptic primarily means it helps to prevent excessive loss of blood through contraction of the blood vessels. If someone is bleeding profusely, they need a hemostatic agent to speed up the clotting of blood and stop its flow to save their life. Similarly, a styptic agent promotes the contraction of gums, hair follicles, muscles, skin, and blood vessels, thereby stimulating the flow of blood through the blood vessels. Both of these properties can be life-saving.

Cypress oil boosts the respiratory system and increases lung  efficiency. It helps clear any buildup in the respiratory tracts and lungs to make breathing easier during times of seasonal sniffles or the common crud.

Cypress oil is considered to be a very powerful sudorific agent, which means it can cause sweating or perspiration. Periodic sweating helps remove toxins, excess salt, and water from the body, clearing out the pores. Clean pores helps to  keep away bacteria and disease.

Cypress oil endures optimal liver health by regulating a proper discharge of bile- a crucial part of a healthy the digestive process. Because Cypress also soothes muscle tension, it can bring abdominal comfort, for the digestive process or menstrual cycle.

💙 IDEAS FOR USE- TOPICAL/ AROMATIC 💙

  • Apply a few drops with carrier oil topically over abdomen to soothe menstruation flow

Myrtle

MYRTLE graphic

Myrtle- Young Living

🌳 FUN FACTS 🌳

Myrtle has been widely used as folk medicine for the treatment of digestive, pulmonary and skin problems in many parts of the world. The myrtle plant was associated with the ancient Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. Born from the sea foam, she sought the comfort of a myrtle bush to cover her nakedness, which is why myrtle also represents purity. Greek tradition has it that myrtle was offered to certain men and women as a symbol of honor. The Greeks also valued the plant because of its incredible healing qualities

🌳 WHAT IT DOES 🌳

Greek physicians used the plant oil for lung and bladder conditions, while in Italy, the oil was prescribed to children for coughing. The oil found in myrtle leaves was also used in skincare and as a remedy to regulate menstrual cycle. Today, myrtle oil has been extensively researched for its ability to help balance hormones, specifically the thyroid and ovaries. Myrtle possesses a particularly desirable property; it is an adaptogen, means it  may help regulate a gland depending on the needs of the person.

Myrtle is highly valued for skincare as it helps to minimize oil, open pores and tighten elasticity.  It can also be effective applied topically on location to speed the healing of blemishes

Myrtle is an excellent choice for respiratory support, and is gentle enough for children and elderly alike. It helps to promote healthy mucus levels in your respiratory tract. It encourages easy breathing by helping to open the sinuses

Angelica

ANGELICA graphic

Angelica- Young Living

🦋 FUN FACTS 🦋

This plant rows wild in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland, mostly in the northern parts of the countries, but it is cultivated mostly in France.  Angelica is from the parsley family, but don’t let that deter you. Legend has it that this oil got its name from an old monk’s tale in which an angel revealed this plant for healing during the plague.   It goes by many names, including the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit Root, Archangel Root and Oil of Angels, probably because its healing powers were so great that the origin must have only been from a Divine Source. History also records its usage during the plague of 1660. People chewed the plant stems to ward off infection, and the seed and roots were used to purify the air. In Germany, this oil is known as the “essence of the Angels.”

🦋 WHAT IT DOES 🦋

While Angelica’s primary use is for cooling,  Energetically, this essential oil assists the user to be open to the angelic realm, source energy and higher self and has a history of aromatherapy use towards combating stress, exhaustion and anxiety. Because Angelica is both a relaxant and a stimulant at the same time, it soothes the nerves while simultaneously encouraging alertness. This is a wonderful oil to use for mental focus.

Medicinally, this oil helps promote calmness in the face of spasms- involuntary and unpredictable contractions of the respiratory tracts, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and internal organs. Often times the only way out is to induce relaxation in the affected parts, which Young Living’s Essential Oil of Angelica is able to do. This relaxing effect is beneficial in driving out gas from the intestines as well- as the abdominal and intestinal walls relax, the gas can more easily pass through. It also stimulated the production of bile and gastric juices, so Angelica supports healthy gas levels and digestive comfort.

Angelica also helps to promote urination and sweating, which aids the body in detoxification. In addition, this oil is wonderful for supporting healthy liver function; Detox of the body through urinary, sweat and liver processes help to boost the immune system . As the body gets rid of undesirable materials, it grows stronger in the “fight.”

Angelica also works to support the bronchial passages, sinuses and generally encourages ease of respiration.

In contrary to its behavior as a relaxant, it is a stimulant for the systems functioning inside the body. It stimulates blood circulation, the secretion of hormones, enzymes, and other juices, and also stimulates metabolic processes, including digestion, absorption, and excretion. This attribute, in total, stimulates healthy growth.

Hyssop

HYSSOP graphic

Hyssop- Young Living

🌺 FUN FACTS 🌺

The perennial plant hyssop is native to the Mediterranean region and was considered a holy plant in biblical times.

The name, Hyssop,  actually means “holy herb.” It was used in rituals, teas, wound healing, and baths. David refers to hyssop in Psalm 51 as part of his repentant lament:

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

During the time of the Romans, this herb was used against the plague, as a disinfectant and for treatment of minor infections. In some parts of the world, it had a spiritual function, and was believed to purify and “forgive sins.”1 Christianity held hyssop in high regard — the herb was cited as a symbol of baptism and reconciliation.2 In other religions, it is associated with purification. This is largely due to the miasma theory, the belief that scent chased away illness. Although that  isn’t exactly the mechanism of action, the idea was there and the application was effective.

When steam-distilled, the plant produces a very potent essential oil

🌺  WHAT IT DOES 🌺

Hyssop has been used since ancient times for nearly every ailment under the sun, from spiritual and emotional cleansing to boozing immunity and restoring health to patients. It helps to regulate menstrual flow, blood pressure and perspiration, as well as opening the airways, healing the skin and boosting immunity. Emotionally, hyssop has been said to clear the mind, alleviate nervous tension and generally overcome fatigue. This energy-inciting quality is one reason it has been administered to patients as it helps them overcome lethargy from being sick. Sometimes the best remedy is to get a patient moving again.

Hyssop has been studied intensively for it’s powerful properties, namely the way it interacts with viral cells and “disarms them,” The Bible also refers to hyssop and other plants as “bitter herbs” which were used to stimulate digestion and calm the digestive tract. Adding a few drops to a carrier oil can do wonders to promote relaxed muscles in any part of the body.

Emotionally and spiritually, Hyssop has long been used as a cleansing and purifying oil. The ancient Hebrews used it to chase away evil spirits. Hyssop was the plant the Lord commanded that the Israelites use to paint the lamb’s blood over their doorposts to ward off the Angel of Death in Egypt. See Exodus

Thyme & Thyme Vitality

Thyme & Thyme Vitality- Young Living

⏰ FUN FACTS ⏰

For centuries, thyme has been used across nations and cultures for incense in holy temples, ancient embalming practices, and warding off nightmares. Historically, Thyme was used by the Egyptians for embalming (think preserved skin, ladies!) and the ancient Greeks used it for protection against  a myriad of diseases. The powerful constituents in Thyme oil provide a cleansing and purifying effect on the skin, but because thyme is high in thymol, it should always be diluted.

⏰ WHAT IT DOES ⏰

Thyme is known to be a general tonic for the nerves and the stomach. It has been used traditionally to aid breathing, encourage healthy digestion, soothe the abdominal region, strengthen the spine, encourage healthy urinary and vaginal environment. Aromatically, Thyme is popular for helping one overcome fatigue and exhaustion after illness- it encourages energy during times of weakness or stress. Thyme is generally prized for its effects on the Immune system, muscles and bones. But it aids many other body systems as well.

⏰ IDEAS FOR USE – INTERNAL (with Vitality™ only) ⏰

  • Ideas in sauces, cheese dips and other recipes
  • Add a few drops to a veggie capsule (with carrier oil) for immune support
  • Enhance your favorite dishes that call for dried thyme and substitute with Thyme Vitality instead

⏰TOPICAL/ AROMATIC (with non-Vitality™ only) ⏰

  • Add to your diffuser mid-day to stimulate alertness and clear out mental lethargy
  • apply a drop (diluted in coconut oil or your favorite face product) on the face to support clear, non-oily skin- it has a cleansing and purifying effect
  • Deep inhale from the palm of hands or the bottle for immune support and increased energy
  • Diffuse for emotional, immune support
  • Diffuse while studying or during times of intense focus or concentration
  • Put a few drops on a cotton ball and strategically place the cotton in areas of the home to ward off creepy-crawlies
  • Add several drops of Thyme to your homemade outdoor spray
  • Create your own DIY deodorant with Thyme oil
  • Use thyme oil to help clean surfaces in the kitchen or bath
  • Apply to Vita-Flex points or directly on desired area

Cinnamon Bark & Vitality

Cinnamon graphic

Cinnamon & Cinnamon Vitality- Young Living

🚀 FUN FACTS 🚀

Due to its powerful properties, this ancient spice was included in just about every medicinal prescription issues in ancient China.

Steam distilled from the outer parts of the cinnamon tree in places like India, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Cinnamon Bark Vitality is very high in the naturally occurring chemical constituent Trans-Cinnamaldehyde. Cinnamaldehyde is a flavonoid and is what gives cinnamon its flavor and odor.

Cinnamon is known to be loaded with antioxidants.

🚀 WHAT IT DOES 🚀

*** ALWAYS DILUTE! Cinnamon can cause skin irritation

*** AVOID DURING PREGANCY

Cinnamon Bark Vitality has a unique, delicious, spicy flavor and did you know that Cinnamon Bark Vitality can not only help maintain a healthy immune system, but also supports the digestive system. This actually makes a lot of sense because, as we discussed last month, 70-80% of our immune system lives in our digestive tract. This oil is also beneficial for circulation, and enhances the effects of other oils

🚀 IDEAS FOR USE – INTERNAL (with Vitality™ only) 🚀

  • add a drop or two to baked goods for that lovely fall spice. Delicious in mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, roasted pumpkin seeds
  • add a drop to a teaspoon of honey and mix into a warm beverage such as rice milk for immune and digestive support
  • substitute Cinnamon Vitality for the ground spice in any recipe
  • combine with Lemon Vitality, Clove Vitality and Nutmeg Vitality to make your favorite holiday cider
  • add a drop of Cinnamon Vitality to your morning oatmeal for a delicious flavor
  • add a drop to your daily NingXia Red – be sure to mix it well! You don’t want undiluted cinnamon oil touching your lips

🚀 TOPICAL / AROMATIC (non- Vitality™ only) 🚀

  • apply (diluted) to minor scrapes to encourage healthy healing
  • apply to insect bites to promote comfort
  • Massage a drop (with carrier oil) over the chest for a soothing effect
  • massage a drop (with carrier oil) over abdomen
  • diffuse for immune support and emotional wellness – use caution to dilute cinnamon because it may burn the nostrils if you place your nose directly over the nebulizer of the diffuser
  • add a few drops to Christmas pinecones or fall decor for a refreshing scent
  • rub a drop (with carrier oil) over skin to soothe and promote healing where needed
  • massage a drop of cinnamon (in carrier) over the chest and back to encourage circulation and support healthy breathing
  • apply to VitaFlex points
